Nordic/Docs Documentary Film Festival was established in 2013, it has grown to be one of the major Norwegian film festivals, and documentary films of all lengths are screened. Submission of films to Nordic/Docs is open for Nordic/Scandinavian films. We also have an international section, with films by invitation only. However, we will be grateful if you would like to advice us on film/s you believe would be interesting for our Nordic audience. Nordic/Docs is located in the beautiful seaside town of Fredrikstad, about one hour south of Oslo. The main festival dates in 2023 is september to october 1st.
We will screen between 70 and 80 films, there will be several masterclasses with Nordic and international award winning filmmakers, learning and informational arrangements, social networking seminars, socializing events, and presentation of the Nordic Docs Awards with the Awards Night Party. Several new, creative and successful collaborations between Nordic and international filmmakers and producers have been initiated during Nordic/Docs.
Nordic and international award winning filmmakers like Margreth Olin, Fred Wiseman, Albert Maysles, Victor Kossakovsky, Kim Longinotto, Pirjo Honkasalo, Laila Pakalnina, Jørgen Leth, Stefan Jarl, Aslaug Holm, Knut Erik Jensen, and Nick Broomfield plus many more are among those who have visited Nordic/Docs for master classes and with their films to meet Norwegian and Nordic colleagues.
The popularity of documentary films and also Nordic/Docs film festival is rapidly growing, not only amongst film-makers and a general audience, but also with young audiences and film school students. We have special programs and learning sessions for young audience and film students, and we screening programs with focus on student films from the different film schools in Norway and Scandinavia. Film school students, audiences under the age of 25 and pensioners have free entry pass to the festival. We expect between 7 and 8 000 guests visiting Nordic Docs in 2023.
